Peter Grainger

reviewer, journalist

Peter Grainger serves as the Head of Content Creation and Acquisition for parent company global eidentities internet. He has enjoyed a decades long career in broadcast journalism, resulting in many awards and the name recoginition that comes from the consistent production of work of the highest quality. All of that is built on attending and graduating from Carleton University, where he studied Journalism and English.

His passion for music and the arts goes back to his earliest days as a young fan attending concerts by the biggest bands of the day, and continues through his presence at concerts and festivals in Vancouver and across British Columbia.

Profile

Peter Grainger began his journalistic career in Ottawa in the early 70s, writing music reviews for his high school newspaper. By the time he entered Carleton University, studying Journalism and English, Peter had already been hosting and producing a weekly student-run current affairs show on local cable TV. Next came five years of on-air hosting at Radio Carleton, where he began interviewing musical heroes; among his first were Genesis, Robert Fripp, Peter Gabriel, Strawbs, Bruce Cockburn, Supertramp, UK, Renaissance and Shawn Phillips. During these years he began freelance writing for various daily, weekly and periodical publications, which he continues to this day.

After graduating from Carleton, Peter moved west to a succession of cities, including Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Windsor and eventually Vancouver as a professional broadcast host and journalist. In 1983, he co-created Canada’s first rock music magazine program in Saskatoon, pre-Much Music, which was aired province-wide several times a week. Over the years, Peter has interviewed scores of artists including Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, The Band, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, The Who, Allman Brothers, Steppenwolf, King Crimson, Yes, Jethro Tull, The Moody Blues, Al Stewart, Richard Thompson, Jackson Browne, Daniel Lanois, Bryan Adams, and many other Canadian acts.

By 1986, Peter was working for the CBC in various cities, as a reporter/producer, eventually making Vancouver his permanent home. Then came a move to CTV News Vancouver for nearly 20 years, covering both general news and arts & entertainment. Peter won several Webster Awards for his reporting, plus two Radio & Television News Directors Association awards including one of the most prestigious prizes in Canada— Best Investigative Reporting-- for his work uncovering the dangers and deficiencies of Taser technology.

Currently global eIdentities' Head of Content Creation and Acquisition, Peter is a regular contributor of profiles and reviews of musical acts, both past and present. He has known eIdentities President and Founder Miles Overn for more than 25 years, after meeting backstage at a Shawn Phillips gig in Edmonton.
